AYA and CNS Tumors: Unmet Needs and Opportunities for Collaboration
Wednesday, October 30, 2024, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET

The NCI Cancer Moonshot℠ and Center for Cancer Research Cancer Moonshot programs, NCI-CONNECT and MyPART, are co-hosting a webinar titled, “AYA and Primary CNS Tumors: Unmet Needs and Opportunities for Collaboration.”

The webinar is an engagement and educational event open to the public, including health care providers, patients, caregivers, and advocates. The goal of the webinar is to continue to bring awareness to the unmet needs, gaps in care, and opportunities for collaboration in care and development of effective therapies for adolescents and young adults (AYA) with primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors.

Their Experience with
Clinical Trials

Clinical trials provide early access to potentially beneficial treatments, advance science, and play an integral role in developing new and improved treatments for brain tumors. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) believes the best management of any patient with cancer is a clinical trial, but the idea of enrolling in a clinical trial may seem daunting. In this video, hear why Julio Piņa, a patient with anaplastic ependymoma, and his wife Liz enrolled in a trial and what the process looked like.

The CERN Foundation and the National Brain Tumor Society have joined forces to help people with ependymoma and advance ependymoma research toward the development of new and better treatments through the creation of the Ependymoma Fund for Research and Education. Today, the CERN Foundation is officially a designated program of the National Brain Tumor Society. Donations to the Ependymoma Fund for Research and Education will be made on the NBTS website and used to support research efforts that will benefit both ependymoma patients and research through CERN. Emphasis will be placed on CERN’s historical model of supporting work that translates basic science into clinical practice. The Fund will also address overcoming barriers to clinical trial accrual and the development of new clinical studies for ependymoma patients. Additional funds will be used to support educational efforts through print, media, and awareness events. The new collaborative Ependymoma Fund will continue CERN’s practice and tradition of involving and collaborating with other scientists, medical providers, foundations and supporters of ependymoma research.
